About Magnetic Resonance Imaging
What Magnetic Resonance Imaging Offers
The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) program in UMMC's School of Health Related Professions develops clinically competent MRI technologists through comprehensive classroom and clinical education, providing the necessary skills for career advancement and professional growth.
The future of MRI includes higher magnetic field strengths in clinical imaging departments, as well as advanced imaging techniques such as functional MRI (fMRI) and spectroscopy.
Also, the integration of MRI with Positron Emission Tomography (PET/MRI) is paving the way for the future in molecular imaging, advancing disease management and improving care for all patients. Molecular imaging is being hailed as the next great advancement in imaging. These developments provide technologists with a variety of skill enrichment opportunities and career advancements for the future.
With all the imaging advancements on the horizon, technologists must be prepared by advancing their education through programs such as SHRP's MSMRI program and its degree offering.
What to expect
The MRI faculty set high standards for students and continually monitor student progress and success, as well as program effectiveness. Cohorts are small by design, allowing for intensive and specialized instruction.
